KARATE KID opens June 11
In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has taken them to China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Yin, but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, and kung fu prodigy, Cheng. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a kung fu master. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and skill, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the adventure of a lifetime.

Since when did the Karate Kid look like a little thug? Since when was Mr. Miyagi 30 years old. This seriously looks like shit.

I must say they just messed up one of the best movies of my childhood…But it seems this might be the most serious role ever of Jackie Chan. So, congrats Jackie.

Of all the classic 80′s film remakes coming up, this one is probably the only one that looks worth watching – regardless of the glaring mix-ups.

@ruger2275.I know, right? It’s ironic that the kid is supposed to learn karate, not kung fu.The movie should be called KUNG FU KID.

God I hated the original…being in the martial arts, i can say that the original sucks. Although “Peter Cetera – Glory of Love” was good times. This one seems more to my liking, can’t wait to see it.

Mr. Miagi tells him to “jack it off” at 0:47. Terrible!!!

Yeah, the original, which dealt with issues of Japanese Internment camps where an adolescent literally grows up in front of you putting an older grieving and passing-out man to bed just wasn’t good enough. Yeah, it was time to remake it with 12 year-olds fighting. Those issues that are so innate to adolescence: trying to fit in, asking out the girl, trying to find balance…well, they’re much better when it’s about a pre-pubescent young man definitely. That’s really what you want.
