Swan’s Japanese Horror Reviews 1: Ring series
Episode one: Ring series. This is my video review of the ring (ringu) movies. Ringu 1 and 2 were directed by Hideo Nakata, Rasen was directed by George Iida, and Ringu 0 was directed by Norio Tsuruta. Hopefully, this will be the first of many video reviews on region one Japanese Horror or j-horror as it's sometimes called. I'm thinking my next review will be on the Ju-on films released here, so please tell me what you think and I'll see you next time! ~Swan (note that Japanese names are given here in the more Western order of given name and then family name.)

Not so bad for a remake, but, it’s not such a great hit as Ringu. But I had watched worse remakes, for example The Call (director was afraid of difficult topics in original movie), The Uninvited (a stupid bloody thriller, with reverted characters), American Shutter (a lot of nudity not so pretty women, superficial motive without suspense), but the worst was The Grudge 3… So you may watch it. Not bad.

What do you think of the American remake?

I know that SHOULD be as you said, but because of this youngster’s accent, you can hear deformed words.
Japanese vowels are similar to yidish vowels. Have you ever read yidish? They put “h” consonant after vowels to prevent these mistakes, “oh” is not “oe”, “ah” is not “ay”, for example “Shiloh” (not “Shiloe”). Japanese vowels sounds similar: Sah-dah-koh (not Sa-da-koe), Mah-ih Tah-kah-noh (not My Ta-ke-noe) etc.
And japanese D is like voiced T, not similar to R.
PS. Sanada, not Sanara.

Dear boy. Your knowledge is great, but your accent is nightmarish! You don’t have to speak Japanese, but you should’t hurt this language so much! “Hedayo Nacatcha”, “Cody Suzuki”, “Takuyama”, “Hyoyuki Sanara”, “My Tacanoe”, and even “Sarako”!!! Have mercy!

I know I’m alone here but I didn’t like Ringu. It starts off fine but then once you hit the flashbacks and people with psychic abilities it just gets so ridiculous that you can’t possibly be frightened by it. The “eye” scene is also ruined by having it on the cover of the movie. The only thing saving it is the ending which is where the american version really dropped the ball.

I saw all of the Ringu movies when I was small and lived in Japan. I was always afraid of watching T.V. or going to the bathroom at night
But my mom saw a little girl with long hair covering her face and she was wearing a white dress with blood all over it, NOT KIDDING. So we moved far, far, far away. Now my mom gets mad at me at night because everyone, even my teachers say I look like Sadako. In fact, that’s my nick name, well next to Bruha Shields.

Christ. My computer froze as he was giving a close-up of the eye. Then while I was waiting for the lag to pass, my damn phone rang.

Haven’t been able to see Rasen so I can’t say.
xD
I’ve heard a lot from both haters and fans of it though, so I’ll get to it.
May 30th, 2010 at 6:21 am
Which is weird, because Rasen was the most dissed overall.

Ringu 2, he said, is the one that sucks.
May 30th, 2010 at 6:47 am
whats so good about the ending
May 30th, 2010 at 7:38 am
I saw Ringu before it became popular and it haunted me for weeks. The atmosphere was so intense and that ending…
It didn’t help that my brother would place the dvd (with Sadako’s face on the cover) in different places around my room so I would see it at unexpected moments. Once he put it under my pillow and my hand touched it as I was drifting off to sleep. I pulled it out and the eye was staring at me…my heart was racing for about half an hour. I had to hide the dvd in a cupboard!
